The first time I travelled to Dubai was in 2008, after which I visited the Emirates several times a year. I've even lived here full-time since 2018.
Is this your first time in Dubai or are you only spending a limited amount of time here? Then the following information is of particular importance to you!
Today I would like to share my Highlights and valuable Local insider tips share with you.
Attention! The order of my list is not sorted. You decide which sight you want to visit first. So: let's go!
Hotel tips
Most of the time I sleep at home, but I can blindly recommend these delightful hotels to anyone:
The pool area and the proximity to the beach and the sea are fantastic.
Modern, luxurious and of outstanding quality - the rooms as well as the restaurants and all outdoor areas. A high-priced hotel - but worth every euro!
The rooms, the ambience, the staff, the view, the beach - simply fantastic! The swell is remarkable, sometimes the waves are really powerful. You'll get that Caribbean feeling here - that's a promise!
I highly recommend you experience Atlantis The Royal on the Palm Jumeirah. If luxury is your thing, you will definitely not be disappointed here. The transition from pool to beach, combined with breathtaking sea views of the Palm Jumeirah from the Royal or Neptune Tower, makes this place unique. A must-see hotel in Dubai!
My personal insider tip for an unforgettable stay in Dubai? Definitely the Four Seasons Hotel. Not only elegant rooms and breathtaking views await you here, but also a service that leaves nothing to be desired. Breakfast tips
Located directly on a marina.
Here you can sit outside, have a nice breakfast and enjoy nature. When you're dropped off there, you look around and think 'I'm in Miami'.
The Mandarin Oriental offers a great breakfast buffet and excellent service. The breakfast definitely leaves nothing to be desired. The fresh fruit, fresh juices and smoothies are very tasty.
The Arabian Tea House in Dubai is a favourite destination for lovers of authentic Arabic cuisine. With a diverse selection of teas and traditional dishes, this restaurant offers a welcoming atmosphere and an opportunity to experience the local culture. Ideal for escaping the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoying a moment of tranquillity.
The breakfast buffet is great with its huge selection. There is something for every taste.
Come to dinner with friends at this great French restaurant! There's live music, a DJ and even a button at the table to order champagne. The decor is glamorous and the menu offers classic French dishes.
Restaurant tips
There is a sushi restaurant in the W Hotel - Akira Back.
Internationally renowned chef Akira Back presents his adrenaline-fuelled Japanese cuisine with Korean influences. He uses seasonal products.
Here you can order your sushi with an app.
Just looking at the menu will make your mouth water. They are very creative, the design was created by a French chef. Sushi Art is located in JBR and Downtown.
Location: Pier 7 in Dubai Marina - It's always best to book in advance!
At 19:00 you have to sit outside and enjoy the sunset. Watch the great light spectacle of the skylines from there. If you're in the queue, take the lift up to the rooftop bar in Pier 7 and enjoy the amazing view from there.
Please note: the lift is not immediately visible. Ask your way through and find the internal lift to get to the Rooftop Bar.
If you want to eat out in Marina - Buddha Bar! A wealth of sensory experiences await you here. The uniqueness of the Buddha Bar with delicious flavours of the Far East and Asia from an innovative menu makes it an unforgettable visit. Particularly impressive photos are taken here in the evening.
With a beautiful view of the Dubai Fountains and the Burj Khalifa, Huqqa (Turkish cuisine) offers a dynamic culinary experience in a design-led environment with style and charisma. The fountain takes place daily from 6pm, every 30 minutes.
CÉ LA VI is an interpretation of the popular French proverb "This is Life".
The restaurant is on the roof of the Address Sky View, but is not directly part of the hotel. Book a table early so that you can enjoy the view and the sunset on the terrace.
Fi'lia is an Italian restaurant in the SLS Tower, Business Bay. If you want to experience the laser show on the Burj Khalifa up close, secure a seat outside on the terrace and enjoy the view.
The simple but appetising menu is a compilation of traditional Greek recipes and dishes; as you feast on your favourite specialities, you'll notice that all dishes are prepared with the freshest ingredients. Very cosy ambience!
At L'ETO you will find an enormous selection of desserts. You can linger there and enjoy a pleasant time with a wonderful view of Dubai city centre. You'll also meet a lot of locals here.
You will be served afternoon tea in the Skyview Bar while marvelling at the impressive view of "The Palm Jumeirah" and "The World". The bar is located on the top floor of the hotel and offers breathtaking panoramic views as you are 221 metres above the ground. Please note that you must book in advance, otherwise security will not let you in.
In Dubai's Financial Districts, you'll discover this lively and popular Italian restaurant that creates a special atmosphere with its classic design and old-school service. Here you can look forward to pizza, pasta and risotto as well as all of Cipriani's famous signature dishes.
An authentic Greek evening awaits you with an abundance of Greek delicacies. In a lively atmosphere with international and Greek music, you can smash your plates and enjoy the food to the full. Highly recommended for an entertaining restaurant experience!
Japanese cuisine, a simple interior and a relaxed atmosphere await you in this cosy restaurant. Grab a seat outside and enjoy the view of the Jumeirah Fishing Harbour.
Located in the heart of the DIFC, Zuma is a real hotspot for lovers of Japanese cuisine. The atmosphere is simply unbeatable - chic yet inviting. A perfect place for special occasions.
LPM Restaurant is located in the heart of Dubai and is an insider tip for fans of French cuisine. The ambience is both inviting and elegant. Delicious dishes and a relaxed atmosphere await you here for hours of enjoyment.
Fitness studios
3 gyms that I really like and recommend are all owned by the same owner - Train SF - with the goal of creating a facility and environment where trainers can focus on what they do best: TRAINING.
TRAIN Strength & Fitness is a 42,000 square metre fitness studio located in the industrial area between Downtown and Emirates Mall in Al Quoz.
The studio has a large number of machines and functional rooms that are suitable for many training styles. There is delicious food in the cafeteria, where most dishes are of course weighed so that you can see exactly how many calories you have consumed.
The gym is located at the northern end of La Mer beach in Dubai. Here you have access to the pool and the small private beach. You also have access to the best fitness centre. In the evenings, there is plenty of partying here.
Here, too, there is a wide range of state-of-the-art equipment for all training styles. Fortunately, I can walk across the Dubai Mall. The studio plays the best music by far. You will rarely meet tourists. Most of them train with a personal trainer.
Shopping / Malls
There are over 25 malls in Dubai.
The Dubai Mall in the UAE is one of the largest shopping centres in the world in terms of retail space at 350,000 square metres.
Fashion Avenue is home to more than 70 luxury brand shops. Without spending a single cent, visitors to Fashion Avenue can enjoy the chic design of the wing on the ground and first floors. Marble walkways, intricate architecture, captivating art and a stylish interior are the highlight of the fashion department.
The MoE is located in the Al-Barsha district, directly on Sheikh Zayed Road. With a shopping area of 223,000 square metres, the mall was one of the largest shopping centres in the world.
Always worth a visit. There are 125 shops there, organised like a small town. There are always lots of discounts and the goods are much cheaper than in a large mall.
The Dubai Hills Mall has many shops, restaurants and fun activities for everyone. It's not too crowded, so you can easily find what you're looking for and enjoy your time. It's also easily accessible. Simply perfect for relaxed shopping!
Hire car / Taxi / Uber
E-scooters are a great way to get around Dubai. Especially for those who need to get home or to work from the metro station.
At Sixt you can hire a car quickly and easily. You will find the Sixt branch between Marina and Downtown. A car is not essential, as taxis are very cheap in Dubai.
You only pay around €10.00 for a half-hour taxi journey. There are also white taxis, which are usually more expensive. These are usually Lexus limousines. You can order taxis via the following apps: Careem & Uber!
An Uber is usually a little more luxurious and slightly more expensive. The Uber app is very easy to install. Simply download the app, register and enter your credit card details. That's all there is to it. The cars usually smell nice and the drivers are discreet.
You can't miss out on various sports car models on Sheikh Zayed Road. Webmotors - the largest super sports and luxury vehicle dealer in the United Arab Emirates - presents over 300 luxury vehicles there; and always 23 Bugattis.
For adrenalin junkies
At 2.83 kilometres, Jais Flight is the longest zipline in the world. You swing along it over jagged mountain peaks and hurtle through deep gorges at hair-raising speeds of up to 150 km/h.
In Dubai, I particularly like the jet ski hire company "Popeye Jetski".
If you can jet ski and the water is really flat that day, you can take the tour around "The World", which takes about an hour and a half.
The World is the artificial world built up as islands. Please note that the tour there takes longer. You therefore need to be in good physical condition, as the waves can be very challenging at times 😉
The normal tours last around 30 to 60 minutes and are also great fun. You explore the Burj Al Arab, the Atlantis Resort and the Palm.
Skydiving in Dubai is an absolutely thrilling experience! Here you can jump out of an aeroplane and enjoy the breathtaking view of the Dubai skyline and the desert panorama. It's safe and exciting for everyone, whether you're a beginner or an experienced skydiver. A real adrenaline rush high above the clouds of Dubai!
Deep Dive Dubai is simply incredible! I had the opportunity to dive into this fascinating underwater world and it was absolutely breathtaking. The underwater landscape is so impressively designed that you feel like you're in another world. Whether you are an experienced diver or not, this experience is something special for everyone. I highly recommend it!
If you come to Dubai, you have to see the desert
The "Love Lake" was opened in November 2018 and consists of two interconnected heart-shaped lakes. At 550 square metres, it is so large that you can even see it from space, as a glance at Google Maps proves.
Love Lake is located in the desert - you actually enter Love Lake in your sat nav. There is also a cycle path there that is 60 kilometres long, runs through the whole desert and is very well maintained.
RAK is the abbreviation of Ras Al Khaimah (an emirate of the UAE). Ras Al Khaima is 90 kilometres from Dubai by car. There are mountains in RAK that are up to 2,000 metres high.
You absolutely have to experience the desert cafés in Dubai! The cafés are often tastefully decorated and offer a marvellous view of the endless desert landscape. It's the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and relax in peace. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends, a visit to one of the desert cafés will definitely be a highlight of your trip to Dubai.
Where to see the most beautiful sunsets
You can reach Creek Harbour either by taxi or car. If you are there at 17:00, you will see an amazing panoramic view of the Dubai skyline at sunset.
On the roof terrace you will find SoBe, the rooftop bar. This is a stylish, very beautiful bar with a great view of the Palm, Marina, Atlantis, Burj Al Arab, Burj Khalifa and the Ferris wheel at sunset.
My recommendation: go here an hour before sunset and enjoy a drink outside on a clear day to unwind.
Kite Beach offers a pleasant environment for relaxation and various water sports activities. There are also several cafés and restaurants nearby to take a break and enjoy the view. Well worth a visit if you're looking for a day at the beach.

This app offers some 2-for-1 deals. Whether beach clubs, restaurants or gyms. There are good offers in this area where you can save a lot of money.
Beach Clubs
Of course, I'm the right person to talk to ☺ I've been to the Beach Club five times since 2018.
Dubai's beach clubs have everything to offer: whether sun-seekers are looking for the glamour of the Côte d'Azur, the relaxed boho chic of Bali or Ibiza or the whitewashed elegance of Miami's beach clubs. It's all here! Women benefit from the so-called Ladies Day. They get offers from hotels across Dubai, including discounts on access to the pool, beach and more. Men can pay more on these days.
Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Dubai is located directly on the waterfront of Pearl Jumeirah and offers its guests a breathtaking panoramic view of the blue waters of the Arabian Gulf from every corner. The first and original luxury beach club that combines elements of music, gastronomy, entertainment, fashion, film and art into a single destination - a must see!
DRIFT is not as wild as Nikki Beach Club. DRIFT is an award-winning beach resort where style meets effortless luxury. Since its opening, DRIFT has become a favourite destination for its guests due to its exclusivity, chic urban atmosphere, lavish facilities and the understated elegance of its design and aesthetic. The infinity pool invites you to linger.
The family-friendly freshwater pool features a shaded swim-up bar at its centre, providing the perfect setting for relaxing and socialising. The saltwater infinity pool is an irresistible adults-only escape directly over the sea. Please book in advance!
Here you can enjoy international cuisine, refreshing cocktails and a relaxed beach atmosphere. With live entertainment and a varied programme, SĀN Beach offers a pleasant break from city life.
An experience - cinema
If you are in Dubai, you must have been to this luxurious cinema.
The Reel Cinema in the Dubai Mall is a must-see! You can enjoy your meal directly in the lounge or have it brought to your cinema seat. The cinema has only about 20 seats and each seat is electrically adjustable. It also has a reading lamp, cushions and blankets. A butler is available around the clock for additional orders. The films are shown in English with Arabic subtitles.
Then something completely different...
The Zabeel Palace is located north-west of Downtown between the racecourse and the Zabeel Stadium. It is less than ten minutes by car from the Dubai Mall.
The royal palace belongs to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Entry to the palace is understandably not permitted, but the view of the driveway and the imposing gate building alone make a short detour well worthwhile.
The palace reminds me of the Brandenburg Gate.
If you like shooting or have never done it before and want to try it out, you've come to the right place. Let off steam at the 9 mm shooting range and experience an unforgettable event. As this place is practically in the middle of the desert, I would recommend booking a taxi for the return journey or having Careem to hand.
There is an age limit here. People aged 13 and over are allowed to come and shoot, both during the day and in the evening.
Sensational architecture - a great building and beautiful to look at from the outside!
Established by the Dubai Future Foundation and opening on 22 February 2022, the museum explores how society could evolve in the coming decades with the help of science and technology.
